Rust, debris and sludge in your central heating system
Build up of rust, debris and sludge over time builds up in central heating systems and can cause water to flow inefficiently. This can cause excessive noise from your boiler, boiler pump or from your radiators when they start heating up. This inefficient flow of water can also cause your boiler to shutdown unexpectedly and can ultimately shorten the life of your boiler, meaning you may need a replacement boiler sooner. As the rust and sludge collects at the bottom of your radiators, you may also find that your radiators take longer to heat up and you may have cold spots around the middle or bottom of your radiator. In extreme cases, blockages can occur, meaning the water cannot flow at all which can cause serious problems.
How can I prevent the build up of rust, debris and sludge in my central heating system?
A powerflushing treatment is the most effective method of removing any deposits that may be affecting the efficiency of your central heating system. A powerflush is a process by which a cleansing agent is ‘flushed’ through your central heating system, breaking down rust and sludge and removing this from your system. Descaling properties and corrosion inhibitors help prevent further rusting from occurring. Many new boilers are condensing boilers, so any contaminants already present can quickly damage your new boiler and may invalidate your warranty.
What are the benefits of a powerflush?
- Efficient circulation of water around your central heating system
- Can eliminate boiler and pump noise
- Less likely boiler will break down
- Radiators may be quieter, heat up quicker and no cold spots
- Your energy bills will be reduced, as your central heating system is working much more efficiently
