About Powerflushing…
What is a powerflush?
A powerflush is a cleaning process. It is used in order to remove deposits of sludge, rust, or any other debris from your central heating system- including your pipes, radiators, coils and heat exchangers. These areas can collect contaminants which- if left- can significantly affect the efficiency of your heating system.
How often will I need a powerflush?
If heating systems have been looked after properly, then the majority of time they only need power-flushing about every 5-6 years. There are certain systems though, which have design faults, and can end up corroding faster. If this is the case, they will need more frequent flushing. Generally, however, systems will stay running efficiently and won’t require flushing for around 5 years or so.
Will I need a powerflush with new installations?
Yes, if you have are having new radiators or a new boiler installed, a powerflush is strongly recommended.
Most manufacturers of boilers require that the central heating system is chemically cleaned before installation, in order for any guarantees/ warranties to be valid. Not flushing it out properly can just risk you to having more unnecessary problems, which you will not be covered for! A lot of central heating system issues relate either directly, or indirectly to sludge or lime scale build up in your system. Eliminating this will make problems easier to diagnose and prevent occurring in the future.
So, you should save yourself avoidable expenses and from having to call out for future assistance by making sure you have a power flush, before having your boiler installed.
It will also be beneficial to have a power flush, if you are installing new radiators. These will still be fitted onto existing pipework, which could have sludge built up. So after your new radiators are installed you should flush out your system. This will help you achieve maximum efficiency from your heating system.
What are the benefits of powerflushing?
Powerflushing is very beneficial to your central heating system. It results in your boiler, and the rest of your central heating system generally, becoming a lot more efficient. This happens because power flushing results in better circulation through your pipework and radiators. And as a result, your boiler does not have to work so hard in order to warm up your house and water.
Therefore, overall, powerflushing increases the efficiency of your heating system, which results in you having to spend less money on your heating bills!
