new boiler Guisley

Are you using your boiler correctly?

We all rely on our boilers to keep us warm, but how do you know if you are getting the most out of what you have. Here’s a few quick ways that you can tell you if you are using your boiler correctly…

Are you using your timer to your advantage?

This is something that we have seen a lot in a years handling boiler services in the Leeds area, and is one of the best ways that you can start to make sure that your boiler is working as hard as possible for you. Many homeowners don’t realise that their boiler has a built-in timer that can allow them to feel the benefit of heat without them doing anything.

The reason this is important is that most of us have jobs that require us to work away from home. This means that you aren’t at home all the time, so it doesn’t make sense to have your heating turned on for most of the day just for when you are present. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way, as clever use of your timer can lead to get the heat that you want, when you want it as well as save you money in the long run.

new boiler GuisleyA great example of this is the dreaded ‘school run’. There’s nothing harder than getting your children out of bed in the morning during those cold winter months. Rather than keeping your heating on overnight just so that you can feel the benefit in the morning, it makes much more sense to get a good sense of when you actually need that heat.

We would recommend that you should have your boiler switch on around 30 minutes before you go to sleep at night and 30 minutes before you wake up. This way, by the time you get out of the bed, your room won’t feel like the arctic and you’ll be able to get on with your day!

Are you working to keep the heat in?

Good insulation is one of the most overlooked aspects of keeping your home warm. One reason for this is that you can’t physically see it working for you but believe us, you’ll be able to feel good insulation. 1/4 of all heat that your home produces is usually lost through the roof. This means that even if you are making the most out of your boiler, if you don’t make an active effort to keep that heat in your home will never be as warm as you’d like it.

When it comes to insulation, always remember that it is a long term investment. You will feel the effects of insulation pretty quickly as you home will be warmer in general, but you won’t start to see the saving immediately and this is important as bill reduction in one of the most common reasons that people look to insulation. It does has the added benefit of increasing the value of your home, so for those who are stuck on the fence, perhaps this is the push that you need to act!
